Revised Government guidelines on social gatherings: what does it mean for weddings?

With Covid cases rising and the Government’s response of once again tightening controls on social gatherings, it’s looking to be a tricky autumn for the events industry as a whole.  The general opinion six months ago was that some sort of normality may have returned by Autumn 2020; but sadly it’s looking unlikely that business will resume to anything resembling usual levels until at least next year. However, here at Rio Lounge we always try to have a positive outlook, and are still optimistic of a healthy 2021.  In this short feature, we clarify the latest rules on small weddings and civil partnership ceremonies. Our range of wedding furniture hire is ideal for a small-scale celebration, whether you choose to host indoors or outdoors. So, if you’re thinking of tying the knot in the coming weeks, read on…..

What about the ‘rule of 6’?  Can we still get married?

The good news is, yes! Whilst most social gatherings of more than six people, either indoors or outdoors, are now illegal, there are a few exceptions. Do remember that small wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships are still allowed to take place. The government guidelines state that you should only invite close friends and family, up to a maximum of 15 people; and only where this can be safely accommodated with social distancing in place. Obviously, the fewer people you have attending, the lower the risk of spreading the virus.

Meanwhile, our funky poseur tables can be placed around your garden for those who prefer to perch. Rain on your wedding day?
