Since 2016, Rio Lounge have been suppliers of outdoor rattan furniture hire to Chesterton’s Polo in the Park, hosted annually at Hurlingham Polo Club in Fulham, London.  Working in conjunction with event production teams Gorilla Events, GTMS , and polo clothing and equipment brand LaMartina, this year we helped to create three luxurious hospitality areas. Having developed close working relationships over the years with Hurlingham and several other UK polo clubs, we are proud of our association with the sport.   Look out for more polo events coming soon too!

A very brief history of Polo

As one of the oldest known team sports, polo was first played in Persia in around 600BC!  Starting out as a training game for elite cavalry units, it is now popular around the globe.  With clubs in over 100 countries, the sport is played professionally in 16 countries. Known as ‘The Sport of Kings’, polo boasts a long-standing association with royalty.  Indeed, Princes William and Harry, following in their father’s footsteps, are both keen polo players and enthusiasts.   

Chesterton’s ‘Polo in the Park’

Chesterton’s Polo in the Park is a three day polo event running annually from Friday-Sunday in early June.  Attendees on Friday are mostly corporate hospitality guests.  Saturday tends to attract the party crowd – expect to glimpse plenty of reality stars such as the cast of E4’s ‘Made in Chelsea’.  Which just leaves Sunday as a more family-oriented day. Polo is played all throughout each day as the guests watch from the stands or hospitality areas.

Played under City Series rules, the polo played at this event differs somewhat from traditional rules. Simplifying the traditional rules means that the game is easier to follow for newcomers to polo.  A smaller polo field, and teams changing ends only at half time rather than after every goal scored are the main differences.  As a result, the game is quicker, and less confusing for spectators.

Styled like a four poster bed, complete with voile drapes, this daybed is perfect when total relaxation is required!  Again, this product is ideal for use outdoors and has a shower-proof mattress covered in faux leather. The perfect daybed for those all-important photo opportunities too!
