Exhibition furniture hire and a brief history of trade shows

The History of Trade Shows and Exhibitions
The Great Exhibition of 1851 – the first trade show
So, all of this got us thinking about the history of trade shows. You have no doubt heard of the Great Exhibition of 1851, which was the first known trade show. Built as a temporary structure especially for the event in Hyde Park, London, The Crystal Palace was the venue for this groundbreaking event.
Here are some interesting facts about the first ‘trade show’:
– Opened by Queen Victoria, the exhibition ran for 5 months and attracted 6 million visitors;
– The world’s most coveted products of the time were displayed such as precious perfumes, musical instruments, weapons, machinery, ceramics, and luxury fabrics, just to name a few;
– The Crystal Palace was 1,850 feet long, 108 feet high and took 5,000 people to build.
This first trade show paved the way for many of the conventions we see in modern trade shows. Of course, many elements have changed significantly since those days but it’s still true to say that trade shows are an excellent way to advertise and showcase products and services face-to-face with customers and suppliers alike.
The logistics of delivering exhibition hire furniture
Of course, when delivering event furniture hire to an exhibition venue, careful planning is essential. Exhibition venues tend to be vast spaces, so it’s vital that we obtain a stand number and location directions from the client! Allowing sufficient time for set-up and de-rig are also critical. Our crew can often experience long queues due to the fact of many exhibitors setting up and taking down their stands at the same time. At Rio Lounge our crew are meticulously briefed prior to delivery and collection; exceeding our clients expectations is always our aim! So you can rest assured that, as well as delivering your furniture hire products, our crew will install them aesthetically according to your instructions.
