Event furniture hire at the BAFTA TV Awards

As event furniture hire suppliers for the third year in a row, we were again honoured this year to provide our outdoor rattan hire furniture at the BAFTA TV Awards at London’s Southbank Centre.    

About the BAFTA TV Awards….

Held annually each May, the BAFTA TV awards are presented to the best TV programmes and their stars from the year’s small screen.  Recognising and awarding every TV show genre from documentaries, to reality shows, soap operas and dramas, the ceremony is an exciting star-studded event. 

Fun fact….the origins of ‘the red carpet’

Associated with grandeur and royalty for many hundreds of years, scarlet carpet has long-standing connections with wealth and opulence.  However, it wasn’t until 1922 that the red carpet and screen celebrity became truly synonymous.  Rolling out a crimson carpet in front of the Egyptian Theatre, Hollywood, for the premiere of the movie Robin Hood, (starring Douglas Fairbanks), was the point where it all began.   Decades later, in 1961, the red carpet was introduced at the Academy Awards (Oscars) ceremony.  TV broadcasters began filming outside the Oscars a few years later, showing the arrival of the stars stepping from their limousines. Consequentially, from that point on, the iconic red carpet has been known as the place for actors to showcase themselves. Furnishing the breakout area…..

So, working to a strict timetable before the celebs arrived, our job was to create a stylish VIP chillout area, where guests could relax outdoors and take a break from partying.  Curved and elegant, the white rattan Bulgari sofas were ideal for this area, creating a relaxed and sociable ambience. Scatter cushions are an ideal and inexpensive way of adding even more comfort and style to our sofas. As a result, our client chose to accessorise with cushions in simple black and white for a sophisticated finishing touch.  Furthermore, we ensured guests stayed warm despite the falling evening temperatures, thanks to our sleek silver Athena Patio Heaters.  

This year’s winners…

Besides our personal favourite TV show, Killing Eve, seemingly sweeping the board this year, winning everything from leading actress (Jodie Comer) to best sound team, other highlights included Benedict Cumberbatch in ‘Patrick Melrose’ and Louis Theroux for his thought-provoking documentary.   Find the full list of winners by visiting the BAFTA website.
