Case Study: Sofa hire at the Tower of London Food Festival

About the Royal Palace Food Festival – Tower of London
Set in the moat of the ancient fortress, this festival is a real must for foodies! Held annually in mid-September, the festival offers four days of culinary delights. Respected chefs Jose Pizzarro and Emily Roux, gave demonstrations and masterclasses. Flooding the Tower’s moat with exciting food and drink related stalls, guests were able to participate in cookery lessons, taste delicious treats and even listen to bands on stage! Of course, there were plenty of opportunities to eat, drink and be merry!
Installing Sofa hire at the Tower of London – overcoming tricky logistics!
Being the third year in a row of supplying furniture to this festival, we knew that delivery logistics were far from straightforward. Firstly, as the client had ordered a large quantity of hire furniture, it had to be transported to the Tower by lorry. However, since the festival is held is held in the Tower’s moat, such vehicles would be too large to pass through. So our director came up with a plan. ‘Decanting’ the furniture order into smaller vans on arrival enabled the crew to gain access to the festival site. (Previously, deliveries have been made to the site by crane!)
The strict schedule of the Tower’s ancient rituals means that timing of vehicle movement was heavily restricted. Following a detailed timing plan for hire furniture installation and collection was vital.
Exploring the Tower of London
Ticketholders also received access to visit and explore the Tower of London. Built in the 1070s by William the Conqueror, it’s best known as a secure fortress and infamous prison. Visitors were able to view the Crown Jewels, the world famous collection of gemstones guarded by the Yeoman Warders (more commonly known as the “Beefeaters”). Guests were also able to explore the cells where many historic prisoners were detained. Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII’s second wife, was also famously beheaded at the Tower! Joining a ‘Beefeater’ tour is an ideal way to learn about life at the Tower both past and present.
The Tower’s seven resident ravens are of course also a visitor attraction. At suppertime, the Ravenmaster can be seen feeding these famed birds. Protecting and caring for the ravens is thought to originally have been the idea of Charles II; he was warned that the Tower would fall if the ravens ever left. This legend lives on to this day.
What is the Ceremony of the Keys?
Set amid the Tower’s battlements, the Ceremony of the Keys is one of the oldest surviving customs of its kind. Forming part of the traditional ‘locking up’ of the Tower of London, it is carried out at 9.53pm precisely each evening.
Although the Queen obviously does not reside at the Tower, the Crown Jewels and many other valuable objects are still kept there. Therefore, the importance of this ceremony is still relevant to this day.
So first, the Sentry calls out, ‘Halt, who comes there?’ . The Yeoman Warder replies, ‘The keys.’ The Sentry asks: ‘Whose keys?’ The Yeoman Warder then replies: ‘Queen Elizabeth’s keys.’ Finally, the Sentry declares: ‘Pass then, all’s well.’
Besides the monarch’s name changing over the centuries, this is the exact dialogue that has been spoken daily for centuries.

Like the Hampton Court Palace Food festival, the event offers VIP tickets for those looking for the ultimate luxury experience. Helping to create a chilled-out area for VIP ticket-holders was our job!

In addition, guests who wanted to sit down to eat loved our co-ordinating South Beach Bistro sets, also in white rattan.
Naturally, VIP tickets included complimentary champagne! So our giant champagne bowls were perfect to keep the fizz chilled, on what turned out to be a very warm and sunny weekend
